CLASS POLICIES
and HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF CLASS
1. PLEASE REMEMBER THE 3 P’S!!
- PRESENCE: Stay present and focus on your child! Our focus will help them focus. It is fine to use your phone to take pictures or video in class, but for the most part try to keep all of your attention on your child!
- PARTICIPATION: Sing, dance, and play together with your child! Except for the drums and stuffed animals, there are usually two sets of everything in your instrument bin. Seeing the adult set an example by participating will encourage the child to do the same!
- PATIENCE: Don’t give up after the first class if your child doesn’t behave or participate! Especially if this is your child’s first experience in a class setting, they may wander, misbehave, or simply sit and observe. Coming to class regularly will help – it may take a few classes for them to fall into the routine and learn how to be in a classroom!
2. NO SNACKS IN CLASS
Snacks during class distract our children from the task at hand, which is learning about and making music! Touching food and then touching the instruments can make them extra dirty and harder to clean, and in some instances damage them. Also, some of our friends may have food allergies, and we want to keep everyone safe in our classroom. If your child tends to get hungry, please make sure they enjoy their snacks prior to class time. Water is great to have in class – singers and musicians must stay hydrated!
3. SIBLING PARTICIPATION
Babies under the age of 1 may attend for free when accompanying an older sibling to a Rocking Tots or Mighty Music Makers class. All siblings between the ages of 1 and 5 who participate regularly in class must be registered. Holidays, school closings, and institute days are exceptions - you may bring a sibling along to class on these occasions and have them participate as well. Usually this only occurs once or twice a session. If you have trouble registering a child who is not within the age range of the class, please contact Miss Angie and she will be happy to help your additional child get registered!
4. MODIFY ACTIVITIES TO YOUR CHILD’S ABILITY
Children develop differently! If your child isn’t walking yet, you are welcome to modify movement activities by holding the child while you move. Do whatever you and your child feel comfortable doing! And never compare them to the other children in the class – everyone can enjoy and benefit from the activities in their own way and progress at their own speed. If you need suggestions for how to modify an activity for your child, don’t hesitate to ask Miss Angie!
5. CLASS CANCELLATION
If a class is cancelled due to severe weather or any other reason, a make-up class will be scheduled. Miss Angie will email all participants about a cancellation and also post on her Facebook and Instagram page. If an entire session is cancelled due to low enrollment, a refund or credit will be issued pursuant to the class location’s policy.
6. REQUESTS FOR MUSIC AT HOME
If there is a song used in class that your child absolutely loves, Miss Angie would love to know about it! Children will enjoy listening to their favorite songs over and over in the car or at home. Miss Angie will be happy to either provide you the name and artist to look up on Spotify or another streaming service, and if it’s an obscure hard-to-find recording, she can e-mail you an mp3 to listen to. Listening outside of class can give your child extra confidence in class because they will KNOW the song so well!
